Our Pastors

The Reverend Peter Kuritz and his wife, The Reverend Janell Wigen, came to Good Shepherd on March 4, 2000.

Pastor Peter was ordained in 1982 after receiving his Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His first pulpit assignment was as Pastor of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, 1982-1986. He then served ten years as Pastoral Care Director for the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Connecticut before coming to Hospice St. John. He has also held resident Chaplancies at Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington, Pa., and the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D. C.

Pastor Janell was ordained after receiving her Master of Divinity degree in 1989 from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. She was named Minister to the City at Bethesda Lutheran Church, New Haven, Connecticut in 1992 before coming to Wilkes-Barre in 1996. Earlier, she was Assistant Pastor at Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Bronx, N. Y. Pastor Wigen has taught elementary and junior high school classes at St. Jakobus Lutheran School in Philadelphia, and taught children in an Eskimo village in Alaska.

Pastors Janell and Peter reside in Trucksville with their son, Peter.
