Martin Luther’s Small Catechism

On Wednesday evenings starting , March 8,  at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, there will be a study of Martin Luther’s Small Catechism. Martin Luther intentionally wrote this Small Catechism to be used by families in their homes for faith development. This study will end by 7:00 pm. Prior to the study there will be a light, informal soup supper starting at 5:30 pm..This week’s  topic will be the 10 Commandments. Journey of Lent

Sunday, March 5th is the first Sunday in the church season of Lent. traditionally, Lent focuses on strengthening  our faith and our relationship with God. All are welcome to join us for worship each Sunday morning at 8:30 am, and 11:00 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  Also each Sunday for an hour starting at 9:45 am, is a children’s based program called Family Faith Journey.  Children learn about God’s love and grow in their faith together with their family.

Starting Monday and through the week there will be questions raised for meditation based on the Bible readings heard during  Sunday worship.

Let us journey together through Lent.

Workshop on Bullying

A workshop on “Strategies for Addressing Conflict and Bullying in Congregations” will be held at the Lutheran Center, Allentown on Saturday, April 16, 9 am – Noon.  For more information go to nepasynod.org/event/dealing-with-bullying-in-the-church.  Deadline to register is April 4

 

Problem of Human Trafficking

Sr. Joann Marie, SCC will present an overview of the very serious problem of human trafficking. The presentation will be held in the Parish Community Room of St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre at 7 pm, on Tuesday, March 29th. The public is welcome.

Palm Sunday Procession

Our annual Palm Sunday procession was led by children riding on a miniature horse. The procession included signing and waving palms as we took the message of Christ’s triumphant ride into Jerusalem through the streets of downtown Wilkes-Barre. Christian Suffering in Syria

Dr. Raymond Khoudary, a local physician in the Wyoming Valley and devout Christian, will be making a presentation on the topic of recent suffering by Christians in Syria and surrounding areas. This presentation will be held at 10 am, March 8, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 813 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704. This is being arranged through the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Mission District. It is open to the public and free.

VBS Strategy Meeting

Please note that the VBS meeting location has been changed to the Good Shepherd Center.

Would you like a part of shaping the future of Good Shepherd’s Vacation Bible School ministry? Join us for a VBS strategy meeting Sunday, February 28th following the 11:00am worship service. Everyone who is interested in being a leader or helping in any way with VBS should attend this meeting. The meeting will be held in fellowship hall.

Note: This meeting was originally scheduled for February 21st but was rescheduled to February 28th.

Soup & Conversation

For 5 consecutive Wednesdays beginning February 17th, a Bible Study series will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church with the title: “The Church Yesterday and Today”. Various letters from the New Testament written by the apostles to the early churches will be discussed. We will begin with a lite soup supper at 5:30 pm, and scripture conversation begins at 6 pm. Bring your Bible!
